FSTN: Film Compensated Super Twisted Nematic
This fluid provides the best contrast, but is also the most costly of the three. Most common products that use this fluid include cellular phones, MP3 Players, and most products that use a graphic display.
Although this fluid offers similar viewing angles as the STN fluid, the major benefit here is the improvement in contrast ratio. The major reason why this fluid has a better contrast ratio than the STN, is its ability to offer a much lighter color background and darker pixels than the STN fluid. This fluid technology is the only one that can have a true black pixel on a somewhat white background. Although on cell phones, the background is not white but silver-gray, the pixels are still much darker than STN fluid pixels, which tend to be a dark blue/purple.
Again, the same features found in the STN technology, in terms of positive or negative mode, are also offered for the FSTN. The only difference is that FSTN does not offer the “yellow” or “blue” background colors.
Note:
Not all fluids are available in all formats, simply because of the costs and practicality. You should consult with our Display Solutions Specialists for the options and to determine which type of display is suitable for your application.
